                                       ABOUT RIVERDANCE



Riverdance is one of the most well known Irish dancing shows ever made all around the world. It is a show that contains mainly Irish dancing dances and Irish music.  It also contains some Spanish dancing and Spanish music.  The famous show was created by Jean butler and Michelle Flatney who were both world champions.  It was directed by John McColgan, composed by Bill Whelan and produced by Moya Doherty.  It first became famous when they performed at the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest during the interval on 30th April 1994. It went viral all around the world and everyone was obsessed with it.  In November 1994,  Riverdance was invited to perform in London at the  Royal Variety Performance in front of Prince Charles. In October 1996 Riverdance went on a US tour and started at Radio City Music Hall and split up into 2 companies, The Lee and the Liffey which were named after 2 of Irelands famous rivers. They performed 23 shows and after that the Lee company moved on and went to Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles,  Detroit and Minneapolis. In September 1996, a cast member Anúna left Riverdance, followed by Jean butler, who left in January 1997. In June 1998, Colin Dunne left the show and he begun to work a new show with Jean Butler called 'Dancing On Dangerous Ground'.
